Botswana Engineers Registration Board (ERB) is an autonomous statutory body established under the Engineering Profession Act. ERB’s role includes evaluating, assessing, and approving certificates of practicing engineers, registering practicing engineers, and enforcing compliance with a code of ethics for the engineering profession. At that time, ERB did not have any digital systems to support its certification process. As a result, ERB recently issued a request for quotations for the design, development, and maintenance of a digital certificate management system (DCMS). Xavier Africa provided a comprehensive bid that demonstrated an understanding of the requirements and was fully compliant with all specifications. Following this competitive bid process, ERB has awarded Xavier Africa the contract to develop its digital certificate management system

The Botswana Engineers Registration Board (ERB) is responsible for regulating the engineering profession in Botswana. It is the only body with statutory powers to evaluate, assess and approve certificates of practicing engineers; register practicing engineers; enforce compliance with a code of ethics for the engineering profession; and regulate its members so as to protect public safety and health.

At that time, ERB did not have any digital systems to support its certification process. Certificates were issued in hard copy form that had to be mailed and signed by hand by the Registrar. The verification process was also done manually with engineers having to come into the ERB offices to certify their certificates.

As a result, ERB recently issued a request for quotations for the design, development, and maintenance of a digital certificate management system (DCMS). The DCMS will be used to manage all certificates issued by the board. This includes registration certificates and professional development unit (PDU) certificates.

The DCMS is expected to be cost-effective and has features such as:

  • Manage registration data electronically;
  • Generate reports for various stakeholders;
  • Monitor daily activities;
  • Facilitate internal communication between stakeholders within ERB, as well as external stakeholders such as registered engineers;

Xavier Africa’s bid was the most comprehensive, demonstrating an understanding of the requirements, and was fully compliant with all specifications. The company also offered a clear pricing structure, detailed timeframes for delivery and support, as well as costed innovations that would be implemented during the development phase. Engineers Registration Board (ERB) has therefore decided to award Xavier Africa with the contract to develop its digital certificate management system (DCMS).

“We are excited about the opportunity to work with ERB and look forward to building a digital certificate management system that will support the organization’s needs. Our team is committed to ensuring that this project is delivered on time and within budget while also providing value-added services that include training, maintenance, and support throughout its lifetime”, Thao Gabathusi Xavier Africa Head of Operations.
